Here are some tips on how to plan a memorable housewarming party for you and your friends.

1. Settle In First
You’re probably very excited to show off your home, but it’s best to make sure that your new house is in order before you throw any big parties. This could be weeks or even months after you move in, but it will at least give you enough time to unpack, set up the furniture, and clean the place.
Plus, planning a party while you’re still transitioning is a recipe for major stress, not to mention a huge blow to your budget. Wait a couple months until you have enough time and money to pull off the perfect housewarming party.
2. Invite Everyone A Few Weeks In Advance
Your friends and family have their own busy lives, but of course they want to be a part of yours and celebrate your milestones with you. Be careful not to spring the invitation on anybody, otherwise, there’s a chance they could end up with conflicting plans.
Send your invites out at least a couple weeks before the housewarming to give them ample time to fit you in their schedule. Include an RSVP date and your contact number, so you can get a final count and plan ahead.
3. Make It A Potluck
Moving isn’t cheap, but being low on funds doesn’t mean you can’t get everybody together for a great housewarming. Housewarmings are a great excuse to get fun, useful presents from your guests, but you don’t want to end up with 10 sets of salt and pepper shakers! Set up a registry for those who want to chip in and get you a little something for your new home. This way, you’ll get gifts you actually need.
Make sure to have a wide variety of options at different price points, so that all your guests can participate. Once the party is over, don’t forget to send out little thank you notes! It’s a small gesture, but it shows how much you really care for your guests.
7. Plan Some Entertainment
Activities and games aren’t just for kids anymore. Set up a program of sorts to keep your guests busy throughout the party. Whether it’s board games, karaoke, or a beer pong table. Not only will all of your guests have something to kill the time, but it’s also a great icebreaker for your guests who don’t know each other very well.

Let your guests leave you jokes, doodles, anecdotes, and other cute things! You can buy an actual guestbook, or DIY one with a notebook or some paper. For even more fun, you can set up a “message wall” in your new home, where guests can write you little messages on sticky notes.
