Saving energy is a great way to reduce your power bills and also help keep the earth green. Many of us would like to save energy, but we probably don’t know the best way to go about it without drastic changes to our daily lives. 

There are so many tips and advices for things you could do to save energy easily without taking a lot of effort, there are obvious things like turning off the lights when you’re not using them or setting your thermostat wisely. 

Here are five easy ways for you to save energy without extra effort: 

1. Let nature help 

Many homes own not just dishwashers and washing machines, it’s also common to find driers. Running these machines takes up a lot of energy. Sure, they are really convenient but if you want to save energy turn to mother nature. 

Rather than drying your clothes using driers or other electric devices, you could air-dry them outside on lines. For your dishes, after getting them washed with the machine, you could set them out on a rack to dry. These little steps would cut your energy consumption by a reasonable rate and also leave you with fresh smelling clothes and dry plates. 

2. Use your appliances smartly 

There’s so much Artificial Intelligence can do for us these days. It has gone beyond asking your mobile assistant what movie is showing at the cinema or asking your phone to make a call for you. Investing in AI to make your home smarter, allows you to control a lot of your energy consumption at the tip of your fingers and to save you more than a few cents in the long run.  

You don’t have to worry about forgetting to switch off lights, the thermostat or whatever electrical appliances you make use of around your home because you could control them from your connected smart devices and save energy easily. 

3. Switch to efficient appliances

Comfort and satisfaction in our homes are, of course, things that we cannot and shouldn’t compromise on. However, sometimes our comfort costs us more than it should. The most expensive isn’t always the most efficient, and you can spend less for more comfort and satisfaction.  

These days there are cheaper and more efficient electronics in the market. Making sure you are not compromising on efficiency would save you money and energy.  

For example, the power-consuming cooling system could rest during cold weather, and you could have one of the best tower fans working when it gets a little warmer. Or you could switch out the traditional incandescent bulbs that consume way more energy than they emit, for energy-saving options like LED lights, and it would ease how you save energy. 

4. Keep your appliances in good shape 

Clean appliances and a clean home is one sure way to ensure everything is running at optimum energy efficiency. When these appliances in the home are not in great shape, some of them will tend to require more energy than they usually need to function.  

Keep them clean and also be aware of the workload they can handle to ensure that they stay in good shape longer because that would save cost and energy.   

5. Avoid energy waste 

There’s no need wasting energy that would cost you more than your budget. Standing in front of the refrigerator with the door open while you decide on what you want, leaving appliances on and idle, spending long hours in a hot shower are ways we waste energy. 

These are habits many people indulge in daily, and over time they can cause unnecessary expenses. Turn off lights and other appliances when you’re not using them, cut down on the shower time. Also, disconnect chargers when they’re not charging your devices because they still take up much energy just being connected to a power outlet.
