Dogs and cats have long been a source of comfort and companionship for humans. But how do you make your home beautiful and inviting while still keeping it practical for the care and feeding of pets? Consider one or two of these ideas in your home to make things a little easier on yourself.
1. Change Out Your Flooring
It’s difficult to have a home that smells fresh and looks clean when you have carpeting throughout the house. You may find it much more sanitary to have tile or hardwood floors installed. This can be especially important in sleeping areas where dander can accumulate and cause respiratory problems. Solid surface flooring will not absorb odor as quickly as carpet will, so if your pet has an accident, it can be much faster and easier to clean up. 2. Your Furnishings
Investing a little more in a quality genuine leather sofa or chair may be worth it in the long run. While pet nails and claws can leave scratches and marks, the surface of real leather can be conditioned which almost hides any marring that may exist. In addition, genuine leather holds up much longer than vinyl or other kinds of manufactured leather.
3. Off Limits
Although many pet owners allow their animals to roam the house freely you may find it helpful to train your animals to stay out of certain areas such as a guest bedroom. Although you enjoy your friends and family, not all of them necessarily enjoy pets, so having a small pet free zone in your home might be a good option.
Your home does not need to be sterile or industrial looking in order to be clean and healthy with pets living alongside you. There are things that can be done to make it easier and more maintenance-free while still enjoying a welcoming and cozy atmosphere.
