You have tried everything- supplements, white noise, counting sheep, and nothing works! You are still not getting to sleep at night. Instead of asking Santa to put you in a snooze by serenading you with lullabies, this year you should ask for a weighted blanket.
In This Post:
What Is in a Weighted Blanket?
A weighted blanket is a blanket filled with, typically, poly pellets, weighted discs, or glass beads.
Why Were Weighted Blankets Invented?
Also called a gravity blanket, they were originally created to help people with sensory disorders such as autism to feel secure and ease their anxieties. It’s the same idea as when you swaddle an infant, or, use a thundershirt on a dog. The pressure and feeling of warmth and security, helps one to relax. We all know someone who could use a little relaxation this holiday season, but that’s not the only benefit receiving a weighted blanket would bestow.
What Do Weighted Blankets Help With?
Weighted blankets have been shown to reduce and help to manage the symptoms general stress, PTSD, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and more. The calming effect a weighted blanket provides has been shown to ease some pain by grounding the body and replicating deep pressure touch, and, by de-stressing and calming, one will find they sleep better and are happier people in general.
And really, who couldn’t use a little more happiness?!
