Give Your New Mattress a Chance to Breathe After You Bring It Home
As soon as you bring a new mattress home, you might be tempted to throw sheets, comforters, pillows, and more onto it. You’re not going to be able to wait to climb into your new bed to test it out.
Before you do this, though, you should give your mattress at least a few hours to breathe. You should set it up wherever you want it, unwrap it, and let it sit out without anything on it.
Many mattresses contain materials that benefit from oxygen flowing through them. Oxygen can help the fibers in these mattresses to soften up so that they’re not too firm when people lay on them for the first time.
Roll or Even Walk Around on Your Mattress
Breaking in a mattress starts with allowing it to breathe. But it also calls on you to put in some work on your part.
After you’ve given your mattress some time to breathe, roll around or walk around on it to loosen up the fibers in it further. If you purchased the best mattress for couples, you can also get your partner to help you with this.
You don’t need to do anything too crazy to your new mattress to make it slightly softer than it is. Applying even just a little pressure to it should be enough to prevent new mattress back pain from taking a toll on you.
Keep the Temperature in Your Bedroom on the Warmer Side
Are you going to be breaking in a mattress that consists of memory foam? The temperature is your bedroom is going to play a role in how quickly it loosens up for you.
If you find yourself saying, “My mattress is too firm,” after the first few nights on it, turn the temperature in your bedroom up to at least 72 degrees Fahrenheit. This should make your mattress softer and more comfortable for you.
Breaking in a Mattress Shouldn’t Take You Too Long to Do
If you don’t do anything to speed up the process, breaking in a mattress can take a month or two. But by following the steps listed here, you can break it in so much sooner than that.
Within just a week or so, you should notice that your mattress is softer than it was when you first bought it. It’ll make you so much more excited to jump into it at the end of a long day.
